Whew! Oh, my! Content twice in one month! How the heck did I manage that? Anyways, crazy life aside, I signed up a while ago for
sg_rarepairings, and I chose Gen->Nick Ballard and Daniel Jackson "Following in His Footsteps" as my prompt. For those of you familiar with my work, Nick is predominant in quite a lot, so really, did you think I'd not go for it?
Time went on, life got crazier, and before I knew it, last Sunday I realized I had actually signed up for this ficathon and it was due now! So I swept out the cobwebs in my brain and put it to use. Naturally, I outlined a story I could not complete in the time allotted, but at least I designed the story to be post-able in independent chapters. The first chapter is my submission to
sg_rarepairings. Further chapters will come forth *hopefully* soon.
Young Daniel readers: While this story is not part of my originally intended outline for the series, it builds greatly on the YD-verse and some of it will take place during Daniel's childhood. The later chapters are a continuation on the Nick and Daniel relationship formed throughout Daniel's childhood as he grows into the man who translated the cartouche and opened the Stargate (and as currently slated, through at least season 3). I will be adding this story to the timeline as an addendum piece.

Beta: many many thanks to
eilidh17 for a very quick beta, and to
cleothemuse for being a soundboard!
Reader's Note: Dialogue in Italics are in Latin. In my Young Daniel-verse, Daniel doesn't learn English until after his parents' deaths. So, as the saying goes, "when in Rome..."
( Daniel stared out of the large bay window ... )
