This is just dripping with the arrogance that Jacob mentioned in "Tangent". Literally, we stuck up a huge road sign, like "Welcome to Colorado!" Granted, SGC personnel were probably the only ones that were going to come through the stargate, but still-all future visitors would associate Hanka with SG-7, the planet designation (which correct me if I'm wrong, is totally only an SGC creation) and wondering who the heck Douglas McLean is to earn himself an observatory. Alien visitors who wanted to be "Taken to your leader" would think that John Smith is the ruler of the planet, not the Hankans. Even if accidentally, the sign in all tenses and purposes committed a coup d'etat, supplanting the Hankan leadership with that of SG-7! But I'm sure it pleased the generals at the Pentagon...
